Slow day, slow night on the board
Not a post about Brilacidin but I hope it stays for a few hours tomorrow morning before being deleted as we have many getting on in years on this board as well as golfers and I thought they might be touched by the sentiment of this poem I wrote:
As our group gets older and time takes its toll, I noticed this on the course and put it to verse. Hope it brings a smile to some who are currently in this situation:
A Golf Cart for One
I called myself a golfer, while many merely scoffed
My rounds were filled with joy, though my shots were mostly off
No matter how I played, my golfing buds helped pull me through
But honey, the rounds I cherished most, were those I played with you
I won my share of tournaments, I shot some awesome rounds
But they didn’t really mean that much if you were not around
The tournaments we played, we rarely finished high
But if smiles were counted instead of shots, we would have passed all others by
I am still in Texas, playing the course we knew as ours
But you are in a better realm where your course is crowned by stars
Our conversations now seem one-sided, but deep down we know that’s not true
For though we talk in silence, our love keeps shining through
I keep the golf cart sparkling as you always wanted it to be
But though it still shines brightly, something’s not quite right to me
It took me some time to recognize our cart was meant for two
But now it is a cart for one, what is missing, my love, is you
As you would want, I’ll play the game and the cart will always shine
But with you gone my smile rings hollow as I’m simply biding my time
I’ll work hard to help others and continue to be of good cheer
But you know my heart’s no longer in it, for you are no longer near
You know how lonely I am now and time seems to slip on by
But that cart for one will always shine for when you look down from the sky
I will drive it with pride and keep a smile on my face
It will be the talk of the Club
For many will swear there is a shadow sitting beside me, laughter following behind
Because that cart for one still holds two - and will forever in my mind.
