Of course big pharma is pushing this a bit. Why do you think Pfizer is trying to get their vaccine to the market with the FDA now. They will literally make a fortune off of it.
In the end, this is about business for some of these companies.
Moderna I believed earlier tried to get the FDA to push to approve their vaccine as well without any further trials.
