95% of adults are EBV positive / previous infection. EBV is it cleared, but persists as a latent virus, with its DNA an intracellular in memory B cells.
The reactivation is precipitated by stressors, including stress and other infections.
Chronic infection and reactivation is a significant problem, not well addressed by antivirals.
The latency and reactivation are complex, but suffice to say the numbers of apparent EBV reactivation cases I’m LH/PASC is a big deal.
Unresolved these lead not just to PASC CFS/ME but a number of lymphomas as well as head and neck cancers.
