What struck me straight away and which I like most, is the second part of the Press Release.
Cytokine storms are not a specialty of just COVID. As the Cision Press Release mentions (for some reason there were 2 press releases in quick succession, the first one which had debatable wording, and the much lengthier and complete Cision one), cytokine storms are seen in ARDS as well, but from personal experience paediatric wards/hospitals are also very familiar with the conditions as it happens quite frequently with children who have specific autoimmune conditions. I was one of those, born with an autoimmune condition (thankfully managed successfully for the rest of my life with daily medicaments) and went through such a cytokine storm and was hospitalized.
So we now have 3 products linked to Aviptadil, injection, inhaled, and the much broader case of cytokine storms which can sometimes also affect cancer patients.
This sentence is key : ""This linkage between the clinical effect of aviptadil on survival and recovery and a measurable biologic change in cytokine levels provides a basis for seeking a biomarker-based regulatory path as envisioned by the 21st Century Cures Act".
Translated : NRx and Relief will at some point run a trial for the relevance of Aviptadil in non-COVID cytokine storms and will apply for an NDA.
This is the start of "our" Aviptadil branching out beyond COVID and ARDS !
