thanks for all this information: I had just called my broker and this is what was explained to me:

If I have a margin account and I used "the margin" to purchase securities the shares can be loaned out/borrowed too short.

If I have a margin acct which allows me to also purchase with cash and use my cash deposit to purchase the security then shares are locked in and not loanable.

I have both options available at my disposal.
