The vaccines dont prevent you from catching COVID. They allow the body to more quickly fight the virus. If effective enough, this prevents the person from having symptoms and (hopefully) from shedding virus.

In an ideal world the vaccine protects the person who has it, and prevents them from spreading it. It will be sometime before we know for sure that it is preventing spread, but its entirely reasonable to assume so.
