Does the Russel 2000 know the top?

The big bear from march 2000 until October 2002, the NASDAQ lost 66% of it's value, and the the S&P 500 lost 48%. But I made a list of the top 10 or so big foods and they had a slight gain plus dividends. Bally Technologies(BYI-gone now) making slots at a time Indian casinos and casinos in general, around the world were exploding went up 106 fold in the exact 30 month period
I was also playing stock in 1987 when many stocks when in one day ,many lost half their value in one day, but most recovered with-in a year.
I was not playing stocks in 1929. Was the government giving all citizens checks of $600 and $1400 per person then and some of it going into the market?
But, I was not playing Japanese stocks from 1950 until 1990 either.
