CDC official sees the outbreak in W. Virginia as "the most concerning" in the U.S. ...As recently as 2014 only 12.5% of HIV cases in W. Virginia were the result of intravenous drug use. By 2019 it was 64.2 % according to Health Dept. Data.
Some of the increase is thought to be associated with the cancellation in 2018 of a highly controversial needle exchange program (offered by Health officials) in an effort to STOP HIV transmission....for those that could/would NOT quit the habit altogether...recidivism is upwards of 80%....a steady march towards destruction.
