Well, maybe you but I went to one of checker's peppermint lounges to learn the twist and talk about a side ache trying to push through that song while learning how to do the twist. That dance sounded easy back then but to do it in style take a several side aches and controlled breathing to work through. I wonder if some of the booze back then had anything to do with that.
...oh let me tell you. We left the lounge with another couple and me and my date jumped in the back seat and I was sweating due to all the dancing. I sat behind my friends wife who was in the passengers seat. I can't recall in that 54 Ford custom if the right rear passenger window could be rowed all the way or it wouldn't as some models didn't. Anyways I was as close to the back of the passengers front seat and had my hand wrapped around the outside center posts of the car and yes it was a two door. The couple was arguing as they slipped into the front seat. Haven't a clue in my memory but I forgot about my hand being wrapped around the center post. Anyways she slammed the car door shut and my hand was mangled and trapped inside the door jam. She was drunk and I' m screaming trying to get her attention to open the damn door and finally she opened the door to free may hand. Now in the 1950's that's when steel was really steel.
Moral of the story....you can "twist and shout" all night but until you get your hand smashed inside of a car door you will never know how to twist and shout professionally.
