Yeah, 401k accounts are usually a pain in the ass when it comes to investing in penny stocks. One of my accounts is a 401k and they discourage penny stock trading by charging high commissions and forcing you to call them for trading certain securities. Maybe there are differences between your account and band's account which could explain why he was able to invest and you weren't. That sucks.
