I dont have a disdain necessarily for those in Govt. I know lots in govt work.
Its just who they are. There arent a lot of movers and shakers in govt. Those that are tend to be the political types. I have good friend who was a lead bomb tech for the FBI. Great guy. would trust my life with him, but he isnt going to shake up the system. He'd give his life to save others, but also he will follow the rules and i dont think there is any way he would be a whistleblower. Gotta pay the bills and get the pension. He has too much family and others that depend on his livelyhood to give that up. Others just are for the paycheck... heck half my employees in my consulting firm are just for the paycheck. You know within 2 months of them starting if they are gonna be somebody or just a clock puncher. Clock punchers will be in the same position in my company or another in 20 years. Others will own my company in 10 years (especially since i will be retired living off LL)
Without the profit motive, what is the incentive for work. In govt that motivation is usually power (just profit in another form). Look at fauci. He makes i think 400k. Supposedly the highest paid federal employee There are tons of people in the private sector that make more than that. He could make more than that if he had left for some BP job, but he didnt. I believe it is because of the power that is granted him or he has a sense of service (even if i disagree with his actions). 400k in DC area aint really that much money.
Even as a pessimist i have been blessed with business partners that are eternal optimists. We have been a good team with me seeing all the potential problems and others seeing all the potential opportunities. (if only they read this board... oh wait they do and they are the ones that got me neck deep in cydy....)
