Sorry - I was under a misconception re virus replication for Covid-19.
An article in tools.niehs.nih.gov, authors Amber Mitchell, DrPh and Jonathan Rosen state that the virus replicates in cells, including the blood, and when it does, it alters the blood’s environment.
From sciencemag.org, authored by Meredith Wadman, Jennifer Couzin-Frankel, Jocelyn Kaiser, Catherine Matacic also confirms the above virus replication. This article (published April 17, 2020) goes on to discuss the damage to the heart, blood vessels, and blood clots. At the time of publication there was no consensus on the mechanism of the damage. I could not find any publications that reported a consensus opinion of the mechanism causing this damage.
