Informed consent. ALL possible side effects MUST be discussed with the patient or patient's representative so that they can decide whether they want to take the chance.
What are the possible side effects? Possible very transient tingling in the fingers, and briefly slightly elevated blood pressure.
Or, you can take your chance on standard of care, which is not very good.
If I have a choice between standard of care and 50/50 chance of getting a very-low-side-effect drug that might save me, or just getting standard of care and maybe dying or having permanent lung damage from the intubation and the disease, guess which one I would choose.
