They don't want to say that they are going to start by dosing for 5 days, because their GUESS is that most people won't need 5 days to see an effect.
But if someone is critically and getting better, you don't want to stop after 3 days if they are not well on the road to recovery. So, keep the options open.
We're trying a novel drug, on a disease unlike any other seen before. Keeping options open seems like a great idea to me.
