Peri- and myocarditis can actually result from several viral infections (along with other pathogens and parasites), but I've heard numerous secondhand reports of scarring and inflammation from covid that are squarely on the more severe end of the spectrum. Some (from early last year) seems to be slowly resolving. Others not.
