My understanding is that your concern about high CT was validated and labs told to reduce CT UNDER 30 to reduce false positives. In fact, it's possible one reason for the recent reductions in new cases are the result of fewer CT Cycles in PCR tests to reduce false positives and the increasing use of antigen tests.
I'm not a proponent of RT-PCR but for a long time PCR was mistakenly called the gold standard and used extensively until the realization that identifying the most virulent cases by antigen tests had many more advantages.
