I would be very surprised if Monsanto was not savvy enough to already have thier people either researching strains, or looking for small medical mary companys that have already developed strains they can buy up in the near future.  With all of their money, and the risk to reward ratios, I am sure it is not an issue to throw a million bucks at it in preparation for what is probably going to happen eventually.
