Given the DSMC’s recommendation to look at 42 day mortality, it’s highly likely that a percentage of the 87 deaths occurred after 28 days. We don’t know what percentage that is but SOC has improved, so it’s reasonable that less patients are dying and some are surviving longer, beyond 28 days. This doesn’t mean that the trial can’t be successful, just that the total numbers of deaths within the 28 days is likely less than 28 days.
