This is a concern for every vaccine and every MAB that targets the viral spike protein. Leronlimab is neither... As bad as this news is for humanity and the pandemic, it's phenomenal news for Leronlimab. Leronlimab doesn't target the virus, so it can mutate all it wants... Leronlimab will quell the immune cascade that results in the cytokine storm, allowing the body to avoid damaging critical organs, and allowing lymphocytes to do their work and develop adaptive immunity in a natural fashion.
This also suggests that this will be with us permanently, unfortunately... and that the need for Leronlimab in the context of sars-cov variants will stretch into decades, not just months.
I said all of this just this week... Good to see the media is getting current with their analysis.

Quote:
Gottlieb cited experimental evidence from Bloom Lab, and explained 501.V2 does appear to partially escape prior immunity. It means that some of the antibodies people produce when they get infected with Covid, as well as the antibody [targeting the viral proteins] drugs, may not be quite as effective.
“The new variant has mutated a part of the spike protein that our antibodies bind to, to try to clear the virus itself, so this is concerning,” Gottlieb said. “Now, the vaccine can become a backstop against these variants really getting more of a foothold here in the United States, but we need to quicken the pace of vaccination.”
[That won't happen... This is just "Don't Panic" pablum]
“Right now that strain does appear to be prevalent in South America and Brazil, the two parts of the world, right now, that are in their summer, but also experiencing a very dense epidemic, and that’s concerning."
[Note: their summer. If it makes it's way to the northern hemisphere this winter, the results will be catastrophic.]
