cDIDDY.. I have a question if you can help ? If my cost basis is 100 k (already paid taxes on) let’s say I want to hold long term but it’s been 6 months and I haven’t sold or bought anything . If I now need 10 k , if I sell shares to put it the 10 k that I need does the year for long term start over? My thought was it only would start over if I bought back and made a profit after selling , however because I’m already taxed on short term gain , as long as I don’t sell more than the 100 k cost basis then the year clock for long term WOULD NOT start over . Am I correct on this ?
TY for your response .
