Novavax's vaccine does not use the entire spike protein, with a viral vector to infect your cells to provoke an immune response. It uses some of the protein from the spike, with an adjuvant, similar to a more traditional vaccine. There is a much smaller chance of the long-term side effects that some scientists fear from Moderna's, AstraZeneca's, and Pfizer's vaccines, which use the spike protein/virus method.
Some scientists are concerned that the mRNA vaccines might provoke autoimmune diseases in some individuals. Those will not appear immediately, but could take a year or longer to appear.
I'm waiting for the Novavax vaccine.
