It will be great to see if they can get the viral reservoir down enough with conditioning regimen before HSCT. If not, they may need an additional push like what you suggested to get rid of the (latent) HIV once and for all. Depends if they want a functional or sterilizing cure.

Timothy Brown apparently had a sterilizing cure, and they can't get HIV out of him anywhere, anyhow. Part of this may have been from the graft versus host disease of his new immune system (from HSCT) taking out his old immune system / CD4+ memory T-cells in resting state that may have still been around after his conditioning for HSCT.
