3% Covid positivity is the total is rate over the last 8 months. It is inappropriate to expect that level of infection into the trial population, unless we decide to wait another 8 months for trial results.
Vaccines are about relative risk reduction. Should we pull 40,000 Americans and intentionally expose them to Covid? Tuskegee should remain in the past.
I have an issue with the politicization of the Covid response, but I don’t believe that Gilead, Pfizer, Regeneron or any of the others are making up results.
I do have concerns about durability of protection, but the initial protection is far better than had been expected when EUA was discussed for greater than 50% protection, as is the typical results for annual influenza vaccines.
