In addition, there have been plenty of google ads for the last year and they aren't all the same. I see them all the time.
I know when people hear ads, they sometimes think TV or Radio and don't realize what a Google ad really is.
There is a reason why they cost what they do because they are targeted and effective. If they weren't no one would buy them as they aren't exactly cheap.
