It does seem that there is a bit of unnecessary confusion (especially in the media) regarding the specific targets of mAbs -most folks just assume mAbs target an antigen.
The WHO has tried to clarify this by establishing a mAb nomenclature scheme, involving prefixes, infixes and suffixes:

Perhaps it might also be helpful to simply distinguish between those that target antigen molecules vs cells and organs (e.g. analogous to antibodies vs auto-antibodies)
