Infectious disease like smallpox was eradicated by vaccines, not treatments. I think that's why emphasis is on vaccines right now.

Also, lives can return to normal faster with vaccines than treatments. Hospitals are already taxed with mask wearing and social distancing. Let’s say we go back to no mask wearing and large gatherings without vaccines. Cases will skyrocket. Assuming Brilacidin works, will hospitals have enough capacity for everyone who needs IV? Patients in critical condition might not receive IV in time if ICU beds run out. If Brilacidin can be taken orally at home, then it’s a totally different story.
I agree that both vaccines and treatments are needed. I’m not saying one is more effective or safer than the other due to very limited early data. This is just my opinion on why governments around the world are investing heavily on vaccines first. I hope COVID-19 vaccines are as safe as the flu shot.
