The scientists trust him, within the companies and in the medical world at large.
The business owners have put their lives' work in his hands, in many cases without seeing much or anything in the way of payment ($2.50 shares?!) to date. So there is something there that they place great value on. The only thing that I see that could be is Joe, his drive, and his vision.
Not to mention that there is no other option. So calling for Joe's resignation or ouster is a fruitless and unproductive approach, IMO.
