There is a reason why it's called Software as a Service instead of Software as a License

The license is bundled into the Service

You can't just buy a VERB license for the software or frankly just a license of many SaaS companies products and go off and do your own thing

This isn't Microsoft Office you are licensing to install on your computer. Even Microsoft moving away from that model for a long time now

Tik tok and Shopify partnered. One didn't buy a license to use the others software to go off and do their own thing that I am aware of

They integrated their services via APIs. Think of that is a switchboard that connects two parties through a common method

Verb's Software/Services is proprietary, limited-term licensed (i.e. the most restrictive) through a subscription

There is a ton of debate on the patent topic, even before the courts ruled on it in 2014 and even more now.

People not familiar with software licensing think everything in the world should be licensed because they watch Shark Tank and how smart they were to patent things like the squatty potty as an example

Hey lookie at all the patents they have:

https://patents.justia.com/assignee/squatty-potty-llc

Despite all the money they spent on the patents everyone 'thinks' they needed...

Do you know, they have been knocked off to death?

What did they patent? The shape of the plastic or the ability to take a dump with your knees up? Latter you can't.

TUSHY Ottoman Premium Toilet Stool is one example that looks a lot nicer

There are a number of ways to protect your IP. Patents are just one way and often come to mind. In some cases the best way. In other cases the worst way.

I've been involved with 10's of millions of software development and never once patented anything.

Why?

It would have been a waste of time, money and resources

Why?

Because someone else wouldn't have the time, money or know how to recreate it and likely if they did, they would do it differently anyway

Why?

Because technology changes so fast. Are you going to build interactive eCommerce with COBAL, FORTRAM, LISP, Visual Basic these days?

A 2 second google search will give anyone more information than they ever want to know on the topic.

Figured you'd enjoy the first link of things you could patent and things you shouldn't
