You are correct. The inference that they added the interim at 75% to make sure we were still on track (creating doubt that we may not show statistical significance at 390 and need to increase the trials size) is absolute nonsense.

They clearly added the interim and the 42 day metric to ensure that the data is worthy of a halt.

I don't see any other possibility. All IMO.
