The most likely reason is that they know the news will not be received well by the market and the stock price will drop.

These next couple of days gives them some time to do damage control in terms of actually activating the 5 UK sites they've been talking about for months (or increasing the sites to the 10 that were theoretically available), and preparing "good news" slidedeck to attempt to defuse the fact that we have to go to full enrollment.
