The important thing to remember is that BMI is just a tool to address ratio of mass to height and does not address body composition.
Some of the best athletes in the world are overweight or obese on the BMI chart.
On the flip side, one's heart and lungs don't get larger with a larger body, so heart and lungs work harder in a 300 lb football player or power lifter, than they do if that same person cuts muscle and total body mass to be lightweight boxer.
These scale are supposed to be tools, but we collectively weaponize them to shame those who don't match our personal ideals of body image.
