If it's underwhelming, they stop the trial for futility. No one believes that will happen AS THEY ALREADY DECIDED THE TRIAL SHOULD CONTINUE.
Even with very good results, it's hard to get a statistically significant p value of with a small number of people. It's just math and probability.
