Dr. Yo just had a scientist on saying it's not the cytokine storm it's the bradykinin storm. Here was my answer -
With bradykinins and CCR5 showing strikingly similar activities I figured there must be a connection rather than parallel systems. TNF-alpha and IFN-gamma (both downregulated by CCR5 blockade) are responsible for upregulating the kinin B1 receptor which is where bradykinin binds.
Bradykinin binding becomes one of the pathways for upregulating proinflammatory cytokines. Controlling bradykinin rather than CCR5 would seem to be the less effective method.
