Here is an article I read recently about metastatic cancer, etc:

Their assertion is that 90% of deaths are from metastatic cancer. Somewhere else I remember a researcher stated that there are usually a couple of ways to attack primary tumors but it's much harder to have success once the tumor has metastasized (to the best of my recollection). To that end, the FDA considers metastatic tumors of breast cancer to be a separate condition.
