One of the things a DSMB is charged with doing is looking at efficacy. Were they able to do a proper evaluation in less than 24 hours? It wouldn't seem so.
Of course they had that right. They wouldn't do so without overwhelming evidence. Adding additional treatments to the trial would have made that harder to determine.
