An hour ago, someone on the Yahoo msg board said there was a halt in trading with news pending. I couldn't prove them wrong because at the same time, trading fell into the doldrums. Our msg board also went very quiet.

So, I have a question. I am on TD Ameritrade and others are on other platforms. How do people find out about a trading halt in a reliable way? Do some of the news wires get it first and they spread the word by posting in the news section for the stock or is there another way you are alerted that one of your holdings just got halted?
