From what I found, there are different boundaries - the "Pocock boundary" requires a p-value of 0.0294 at the interim point; the" Haybittle–Peto boundary" is very conservative and requires 0.001.

So depends on which one they are using. If they use the latter, a halt will be immensely difficult...
