Thanks, CTMedic! I appreciate the encouragement (even though my wife might not...she'd rather have me doing chores on the weekend instead of playing online).
The idea of the analysis is really simple, just a step beyond multiple regression. You could get an idea of how it would work by reading the numbers off fig 2 and running a multiple regression of log(IL-6) ~ time + patient. This can (and should) be refined in a few ways, but for a lay approach, it should be pretty good.
