Age is not a reason, per se, you can be ancient and effectively run a lot of businesses out there.
But you can't do stuff like continue as a pro athlete or do manual labor or be in the military at an advanced age. Some big time law firms have mandatory retirement ages.
You also can't effectively run a software company - I'm Kay's age (almost) and that's clear to me - ask any 35 year old.
