Coronavirus crisis deepens as Florida soars over 10,000 new cases, largest jump of the pandemic

Florida is now deeper into its coronavirus crisis than ever before, as the state added 10,109 new cases on Thursday.
That’s a record for the pandemic, continuing a surge of COVID-19 infections that began a month ago. The previous high mark was 9,585 cases on Saturday.
To date, at least 169,106 people have been diagnosed with the disease.
The Department of Health also reported 68 additional deaths linked to COVID-19, for a new total of 3,718 fatalities. The death toll has also been creeping up.
The record-high daily case totals have forced state and local officials to stop bars from serving alcohol, beef up enforcement of business capacity rules, and close beaches over the upcoming holiday weekend.
