I have to believe that the sophisticated investors here are correct that we just witness a huge attempt for someone with a large short position to cover or grab a large position at a discount as weak-kneed trades bail.
The science is the science. The day to day price variation while fun (until it's not, as we saw this morning), is as close to immaterial as you can get.
