Remdesivir shortens hospital stays 4 days on average. Those 4 days cost an estimated $12,000. Obviously, it's cost-effective to pay the $3,120 price that U.S. patients have to pay. (It's OTHER countries that get the cheaper price -- U.S. patients get gouged.)
As far as "it's just a few days less" -- ask any patient whether even ONE day less in the hospital is "worth it." The answer is resoundingly YES, and to spend probably FOUR days less in the hospital is a huge benefit.
Don't forget that when you get patients out of the hospital, you are also reducing stress on the incredibly overworked healthcare workers.
I get very annoyed at the cruelty of people saying "what's the big deal about a few days less in the hospital." It is a VERY BIG DEAL.
