The article in The Drive about the update on the US TRANSCOM / USAF AMC contract plans failed to mention that it isn't just for "flying boom" tankers. As I have pointed out before - as gleaned from the reference at beta.sam.gov - 30% of the requirement is for "hose and drogue" - the method used on the $TMPS Tristars.
The article is also incorrect in stating that multiple foreign air forces have surplus tankers being retired coming up.
Omega already grabbed the 2 x Royal Netherlands Air Force KDC-10s - which are in any event "flying boom".
There are no comparable "hose and drogue" tankers in the same league as the Tristars.
