Point taken, but I am talking more about people who are HIGHLY skilled at contract negotiations with BP and distributors. You have no idea how many clients come to me after having made a HORRIBLE deal that screws them over, begging me to figure out how to get them out of it.
When I ask why they didn't go to an attorney before signing the deal on their own, they always say "I thought I could do it alone and I didn't want to spend the money." Well, congratulations, you've just cost yourself potentially millions of $$ by giving up rights you never realized you were giving up.
"Common sense" and "contract negotiations" do not always go hand in hand. There is a reason some people are paid in upwards of $650/hour to negotiate certain kinds of deals against big companies.
