I think we need to define 'retailers'. The population of retail investors can likely be represented in a bell curve (like at lot of things -- just my assumption). MOST retailers are small fry....$1k to $5k? Very few are whales.
Its counterintuitive, but whales are more likely to hold their shares while retail is more likely to try to flip for small gains in order to net a large gain.
I doubt the average retailer can play the game I described and if they do, I'm not sure you could classify them as 'retail'.
