I may not have been clear. And, of course, I may be wrong. But here it is again:
As you probably know, EIND stands for Emergency Investigational New Drug. CytoDyn’s 54+ Severe patients have been treated under the EIND. An EIND requires a fair amount of coordination, paperwork and processing by the FDA before a drug can be administered -- not good for a pandemic where doctors have no bandwidth.
EUA stands for Emergency Use Authorization. EUA is also sometimes referred to as the “Compassionate Use”. Compassionate Use does not require the aforementioned paperwork and is meant to provide an easy pathway for a patients with an immediately life-threatening condition or serious disease outside of clinical trials. CytoDyn has asked the FDA multiple times for Compassionate Use – and they are doing it again right now.
