I didn't see that article, specifically, but I've seen a number of the cases where comorbidities required extreme treatment methods; the comorbidities, how varied they are, and their unique effects on progression make the underlying mechanisms difficult to pinpoint... without corresponding cases in the adult population, it's difficult to impossible to draw any parallels, imo.
