There are two issues -- the claim that the virus was genetically engineered, and the claim that it was accidentally released from the lab in Wuhan.
One issue probably not being true does not mean the the other is not true.
People seem to be conflating them -- saying either:
1) It was a genetically engineered virus that was released from the lab;
or
2) It's a natural virus from the wet market.
There is a third choice:
3) It's a natural virus that was released from the lab
The fourth combination is NOT possible -- "it's an engineered virus, infecting humans from the wet market" -- because if it's engineered, it wouldn't be found in animals for natural transmission to humans.
