The calculation was for those that received mechanical ventilation. Of those that remained in hospital let's asume that nobody died. That will not change the numbers. Lets asume that some went latter into ventilators and died. that will change the numbers (maybe for worse or better), however the study has to end at some point.
The numbers reported where what was available when the study was completed. Imo the amount of patients was large and the data is significant statistically speaking.
