Cytodyn is running two Leronlimab trials: a phase II for mild/moderate cases and a Phase IIb/III for severe cases. A Phase I trial was not necessary because the company has already accumulated over 5 years of safety data in over 800 HIV patients in phase III HIV trials.
The company has completed P3 trial in HIV combination therapy; currently there is a monotherapy in HIV underway. Some of the monotherapy patients have taken leronlimab for over 5 years without adverse events and with good quality of life. COVID trials underway are phase 2 and phase 2/3. Also over 50 patients have been treated for Covid under emergency IND with impressive results. So this is way past phase 1. While thousands of patients were needed to show Remesdivir does *something,* the same pool of patients isn't necessary when a smaller pool shows efficacy-- i.e. a much larger portion of ventilator patients survive than is typical and the drug has previously been shown to be safe.
